Day 2 of my internship

Most of the day I did research for Windows 2012r2 migration tips. I found the follow websites helpful:

Windows 2012r2 prepartation

Windows 2012r2 live migration action plan

Windows 2012 live migration and video

Windows 2012r2 system requirements

I also added this to the action plan:

-Sign in as a Domain Admin

-Check for licensing details. Do we need to update or acquire more?

-Check for system minimal requirements for all destination servers or Run the Best Practices Analyzer

  • 4 GHz 64-bit processor
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 32 GB Disk Space
  • GB Ethernet Adapter
  • Internet access

-Check for 64bit version

-Besides ADDS role, which other roles are we transferring?

-Email everyone when the live migration will take place and who to contact if there are any problems.

-Check connectivity. Make sure each server can receive and send ping requests.

-Check for recent updates on both source and destination servers then disable automatic updates

-Add MSMT feature on destination and source servers

-Backup source server

  • Active Directory Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)
  • The registry
  • Internet Information Services (IIS)

-Stop DHCP server prior to migration

-Verify DNS is correctly set pointing to Domain controller
