8th day of my internship.

Well, I have good news. Friday our Windows 2012 r2 essentials migration went through without a hitch. There were no calls that came in today. Hurray!

If a client is in a contract with Tech Help they receive a service called Lab TechLabTech

The LabTech remote monitoring and management (RMM) platform that significantly improves your productivity and efficiency with the power of automation. LabTech’s functionality can take care of any repetitive IT maintenance task or process, monitor mission critical network components, run auto-remediation programs and so much more. At LabTech Software, we proudly say, “If you can think of an IT task, LabTech can automate it!”

Tech Help uses LabTech software for updating client’s workstations and servers. This service keeps Windows, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Office up-to-date with the latest security patches and bug fixes, ensuring the client’s computer is as secure as possible. This simply takes the stress away so they don’t have to deal with the problems associated with Windows update issues. The reason why only once a month is because Windows typically updates on Patch Tuesday, an unofficial term used to refer to when Microsoft regularly releases security patches for its software products.  However, Windows Update can also cause problems — particularly by nagging you to reboot when you’re trying to use your computer and automatically restarting your computer overnight.

I was given a new task today to research Darik’s Boot and Nuke (DBAN). It is a free download designed for the personal user to erase a hard disk drive or several at one time. There are several methods varying the number of passes it writes over permanently
deleting the contents of any hard disk that it can detect. This method DBANprevents identity theft before recycling a computer. DBAN is also a commonly used solution to remove viruses and spyware from Microsoft Windows installations. Here is a link that will show you how to install and use the software. Tomorrow I will be will be using this software to wipe several HDD from a bootable flash drive that I made.
